Taking away first prize in the Higher Education Category, School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences staff and students couldn't be any prouder.
Members of the UoN Viscom Student Club took the initiative during the winter break, to work on a group animation project outside of their studies to enter at Wanimate's national competition '3Thirty'. Working effortlessly perfecting their piece of work showed amazing skill and determination that led to the student group taking first prize in the Higher Education Category. Learn about the students and their work:
What is the animation about?
"Have you ever dreamt of flying? Or falling? Our little chicken dreams about both. Good and bad."
Why enter the competition in the middle of the Semester?
They have independently and collaboratively developed professional skills concurrently with their academic program. We hope this inspires many more students!
Annelise Terelinck (Director & Animator): Working as a director on this project was certainly interesting, it was my responsibility to give everyone a vision across all elements and learnt what it meant to be a manager on a tight turnaround. I found myself giving generous amounts of time to complete this, driven by the fact my team wanted this to happen, and it was a rewarding sight at its completion + winning title.
Ayden Seis (Animator): I started this group as I wanted students to have a chance to come together and work on a project outside the classroom, using skills we have developed through our studies in a practical setting.
Muazzam Hassan Mir (Graphics & Credits): I joined this project to challenge myself and improve my skills while working as part of a team. Winning the award really boosted my confidence and deepened my enthusiasm for animation.
Owen Lonergan McKenzie (Keyframer & Sound Designer): I got into this project as I wanted to learn how to create an animation in a group and expand my skills. Winning this award has increased my confidence in my own abilities.
