Statement from Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky AO on the safe return of international students to Newcastle
I am pleased to share that the NSW Government has submitted a plan to the Commonwealth for the return of international students to NSW from mid-2021.
As you may be aware, our University has been working collaboratively with the NSW Government and other universities on this pilot initiative for more than 12 months. I would like to acknowledge the work of the government and university colleagues who have helped us get to this stage.
If approved by the Federal Government, the pilot will initially see 250 continuing students per fortnight return to Sydney to quarantine. We understand our allocation to be around eight students in the first instance.

Our international students are a much-valued part of our community and we look forward to welcoming them back to our campuses in due course.
