A message for our University community
I expect many of you are – like me – looking forward to the airing of Ian Darling’s documentary, The Final Quarter tomorrow night. The critically acclaimed film shines a light on the challenges associated with racism faced by AFL player and former Australian of the Year Adam Goodes.
Based on reviews, this film is essential viewing for all Australians. It provides the opportunity to reconsider what can happen on and off the football field. If you recall, this was a very difficult chapter in Australian sport and society at large.
We need to learn the lessons to ensure this kind of thing never happens again.
At our University, we are committed to providing an environment that is free from racism and discrimination. We are proud of the opportunities we provide for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to access and succeed in higher education. Empowering our staff to foster a culturally safe environment is an important part of this effort.
Please consider taking the time to watch The Final Quarter which airs on Channel 10 and WIN on Thursday 18 July at 7:30pm (AEST).
