World's best animated films on show in Newcastle
The Newcastle International Animation Festival (NIAF) will extend across three days this year, featuring a fresh selection of the world's finest bite-sized animated films.
The NIAF will run from Friday 25 August - Sunday 27 August at Tower Cinemas and offers a range of sessions for both adults and kids.
University of Newcastle (UON) student Rebecca Fitzgerald, UON graduate Jessica McLeod-Yu and local animator Tim Cantt, will have their short animations featured on the big screen, which were selected from more than 4,000 submission made around the world.
The festival will also include a premier film screening and Q&A session with local animators, including UON graduate and NIAF 2015 competition winner, Dan Smith.
Dan has gone on to achieve international recognition after his short film pitch for Blair and the Sea Pancake was chosen from a pool of 900 international entries to be produced in the 2016 Nickelodeon Animated Shorts Program.
In the lead up to the festival, NIAF will also be running its Annual Animation Competition with winners announced opening night.
The popular Kids Program will return on Sunday morning, with the Australian Showcase and adult-only Late Night Bizarre featuring on Saturday night.
The diverse range of styles, genres and techniques featured in the festival showcase the very best of contemporary global animation.

Tickets are $10 per session or $25 for a weekend pass and are on sale at Event Cinemas Newcastle.
