Australia's biggest international animation festival is coming to Newcastle on Friday 26 August & Saturday 27 August at Tower Cinemas.

The Newcastle International Animation Festival returns with a fresh selection of the world’s finest bite-sized animated films!

This year the Newcastle International Animation Festival, thanks to The University of Newcastle, extends across three days of animated glory from the 25-27 August 2017. With 5 sessions spread over the 3 days, there is no reason to miss your dose of quirky animation goodness!

The world’s best animators have gathered stories from this universe and the next! This year’s festival will bring you hilarious gags, quiet moments from the everyday, bizarre creatures, acts of human kindness & mind-bending brain food. There will be fun for the kids and even more for the grownups!

The festival will also include a Q&A session with local animators and a premier film screening.

The festival will also be running its annual animation competition with winners announced on opening night! Don’t miss it!

Local goodness - Australia’s best animations! Newcastle has delivered with two films from our very own UON students + another from local filmmaker Tim Cannt.

Prepare for things to get a little weird in this mind bending adults-only after-hours session. Bring your freakiest self and get ready to melt into another reality or two.

Kids' Program

There are lots of laughs and plenty of cute moments in this session for people aged 2 and up. You’ll travel to curious worlds with some of the cheekiest characters. Guaranteed giggles for the whole family!

More global greatness. To wrap up the festival, in true international style, we bring you stories from the UK, Germany, Latvia, France, India, Taiwan and Belgium.
