Honours and HRD in spotlight on Central Coast
Central Coast academic and professional staff collaborated to take the courageous step of piloting a new event at Ourimbah Campus to shine a spotlight on Honours and HRD opportunities available to students.
This is the first time that a cross-faculty event, targeted at sparking the curiosity of current UON Central Coast students and staff, to continue their educational journey to postgraduate level, has been held on the Ourimbah Campus.
More than 85 students attended the Honours and HRD Expo, held at Ourimbah Campus Quad on October 13 2016. Current Honours and HRD students from the Faculty of Business and Law, Faculty of Education and Arts, Faculty of Science and IT and Faculty of Health and Medicine, displayed posters and were available to talk to prospective Honours and research students about their research and life as a research student.
Pancreatic cancer researcher, Associate Professor Chris Scarlett, the 2016 UON 3 Minute Thesis winner, Chloe Goldsmith, and nursing alumnus Laurie Bickhoff, spoke of their postgraduate study journeys, and were complemented by a presentation on successful Honours students, who are now working in business and industry.
To help inspire undergraduate students to consider Honours or HRD study at Ourimbah Campus, a series of videos were created, with the assistance of the Faculty of Business and Law, for current Central Coast postgraduate students to share their stories. The videos will be utilised as a resource for the ongoing promotion of further study by staff on the Central Coast.
