UON Law Students Shine on Global Stage at Brown-Mosten Client Consultation Competition
The University of Newcastle Law Students Association (UNLSA) is thrilled to announce the outstanding achievement of final-year law students Tamsin Caldwell and Olivia Martin, who represented Australia at the prestigious Brown-Mosten International Client Consultation Competition (BM-ICCC), held earlier this month at the University of Glasgow.
After securing victory at the 2024 Australian Law Students' Association (ALSA) National Client Interviewing Competition and the UNLSA Client Interviewing Competition in 2023, Tamsin and Olivia earned the honour of representing the nation on an international platform. Their efforts culminated in reaching the semi-finals, a remarkable feat in a competition featuring top-tier law students from over 38 countries worldwide.
The BM-ICCC provides a unique opportunity for law students to refine their client interviewing and counselling skills while engaging with legal peers from diverse cultures and legal systems. Each year, the competition centres on a different area of law, challenging students to demonstrate adaptability, empathy, professionalism, and legal acumen in simulated client scenarios. Tamsin and Olivia’s success is not only a testament to their dedication and professionalism but also highlights the quality of legal education and advocacy training at the University of Newcastle. “This experience was invaluable. Competing on a global scale pushed us to our limits and helped us grow both professionally and personally,” shared Olivia Martin.
UNLSA extends its heartfelt congratulations to Tamsin and Olivia and expresses gratitude to the Newcastle School of Law and Justice and Legal Centre NSW for their generous support throughout the competition journey. Their accomplishment underscores the importance of SSAF-supported initiatives in providing students with real-world learning opportunities and a platform to showcase their talents on the world stage.
