Communications Support and Engagement for International Students
The Communications Support and Engagement Officer plays a vital role in enhancing the experience of international students at the University of Newcastle. Key responsibilities include managing communication platforms, promoting welfare and support services (e.g., mental health, visa, housing), facilitating social and cultural integration activities, collecting student feedback, and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders like TAFE NSW, City of Newcastle, Study NSW, and NUsport.
In Semester 1 2025, the officer’s efforts reached impressive numbers:
- City Welcome Event (March): 362 students (face-to-face)
- AUSISO International Student Sports Day (March): 121 students (face-to-face)
- Housing in Australia Session (February): 21 students (face-to-face), 10 (online)
- International Student Welcome Session (February): 252 students(face-to-face)
- International Student Onboarding Campaigns (January to March): 495 students (Trimester 1), 1,209 students (Semester 1), 227 students (Trimester 2)
These initiatives have helped improve international student engagement, build community connections, and promote access to key services, aligning with SSAF funding objectives. By amplifying student communications and creating inclusive social and cultural opportunities, the role has strengthened international student support and integration across the university.
