The career-ready placement requirements for students in our biomedical science programs are as follows:

HUBS3412 Work Integrated Learning in Biomedical Science offers you the chance to apply your theoretical knowledge and gain practical experience in a vocational setting related to the Bachelor of Biomedical Science. You will engage in a structured and supervised placement with a host organisation in your area of interest.
Placement opportunities are diverse and include medical research institutes, clinical trial centres, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Additionally, there are options to complete placements both locally and interstate. The Academic Placement Officer (APO) will work with you to source an appropriate placement opportunity.
Please note that the Master of Laboratory Medicine is a new program commencing in 2025. Placement courses mentioned below will commence from 2026.
Clinical specialisation: You will be prepared to work in diagnostic medical laboratories in hospitals or the private sector. You will complete 12 weeks of placement in a modern diagnostic laboratory through the courses HUBS6210 Laboratory Medicine Placement A, HUBS6212 Laboratory Medicine Placement B, and HUBS6214 Laboratory Medicine Placement C.
Research specialisation: You will be prepared to work in clinical laboratory research, or in the field of medical technology and applications for pathology equipment. You will complete a 12-month placement program in a research facility. HUBS6401A/HUBS6401B Research in Laboratory Medicine 1 Part A / B, HUBS6402A/HUBS6402B Research in Laboratory Medicine 2 Part A / B.
The Academic Placement Officer (APO) will work with you to source appropriate placement opportunities.
