This resource looks at ways to create images using Ai generators.
Using AI-generated images through text to image generators can be a useful way to create specific images for your teaching. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind before including these images in your course. Please review our resource on important considerations before creating images using AI.
Ai image generators are available from the providers below:
Copilot Designer
Copilot Designer is available to all staff. This Microsoft product helps you create images from text prompts using DALL-E 3, the image generation model developed by OpenAI. Access it here and use your UON credentials to sign-in.
Example: Copilot Designer generated 4 options from the text prompt Polar bear on a bicycle eating grapes. The selected image exported as 1024 x 1024px jpeg.
Adobe Firefly
Adobe Firefly is available to some staff via the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
Adobe Firefly is the generative AI model trained on a dataset from Adobe Stock's openly licensed and public domain content where the copyright has expired.
- Adobe Photoshop uses Firefly to run its generative fill tool (used to add and remove content from images using the selection tool).
- Adobe Illustrator uses Firefly to run its text to vector tool (uses text prompts to generate editable vector graphics)
- Adobe Express is also available and has the same generative Ai features.
Example: Adobe Firefly generated 4 options from the same text prompt. The selected image exported as 2048 x 2048px jpeg.
Canva
Canva is a web-based graphic design tool. It has apps available that generate AI images from text prompts. Note, Canva offers free credits for creating generative AI images before needing to upgrade to Canva Pro.
Take a look here: https://www.canva.com/your-apps/ai-powered
Example: Canva interface generated 2 options from the text prompt. Selected image exported as 1024x1024px jpeg.

Alt Text
For accessibility purposes, it is essential to include Alt text with any images being generated (unless for decorative purposes). Generative AI can also be prompted to determine relevant Alt text for any images you generate or upload. Alt text is a short text sentence that describes what an image shows. Alt text can be read by screen readers for the visually impaired, search engines and also if there is low bandwidth.
