Graphics can help to enhance your course content. There are many ways in which they can be used to facilitate understanding of concepts in your course.
For example:
- Diagrams
- Equations
- Illustrations of a theory
- Bringing an abstract concept into concrete example, and
- Simplify data or complex content (Infographics)
Sourcing images and graphics
- Sites such as Pexels and Unsplash provide images that are copyright free.
- Adobe Stock Image provides a range of images and other graphics available for educational purposes.
- For icons consider using content from Creative Commons or The Noun Project
When adding images to your Canvas course site you must consider Copyright. Please ensure you give attribution to the copyright owner for any content you use. Please also consider screen readers by adding descriptive alt tags to all images.

Image size
When uploading images for use in your course, please consider keeping the file size under 500kb. Preview the image and check how it displays on screen. You may need to adjust the image if it is too large.

Images for web are generally saved as jpegs and use RGB colour mode. If you have access to photoshop the 'export for web' option is an ideal way of ensuring your image is web safe.
