New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty OrientationNew Faculty Orientation (NFO)  (which includes Teaching Essentials) aims to familiarise new teaching staff with our unique learning environment and provide opportunities for professional development, networking and collegiality.  This program is a probationary requirement for most new academic appointments.

New Teaching Staff, with a probationary requirement to complete Teaching Essentials and/or New Faculty Orientation, should register for the next available session.  Please check your letter of appointment to confirm your probationary requirement before registering.

New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty Orientation covers practical workshop sessions and introduces new teaching staff to the essential information needed to successfully teach at the University of Newcastle.  Topics may include constructive alignment, an introduction to our students, teaching fundamentals, the virtual learning environment, assessment  and course design, active learning and engagement, media production skills, professional development, and an opportunity to meet with support services across the university.

Virtual Learning Environment - Introductory Consultation

The Learning Management System at the University of Newcastle is Canvas.  Introductory training and support sessions are available for new staff who wish to learn more about Canvas. These can be requested by emailing lts@newcastle.edu.au or phone 40558999.
