Improving health and safety

For every lost time injury there have been 29 minor injuries and 300 near misses. In response to staff feedback, there has been a concentrated effort across the University of Newcastle around health and safety.  We renewed our commitment to safety with the signing of the first Safety Charter in 2015. This was followed by the launch of the 'You make the call' campaign highlighting the importance of reporting near misses and potential hazards to reduce injury. This is a great example of where our staff having a strong voice is absolutely critical.

Resources Division makes safety a healthy competition

Idea light bulbThe RESOURCES DIVISION has been working hard to increase awareness around safety issues. The division has implemented a monthly safety challenge, encouraging competition between areas within the division.  Under this initiative, staff have completed online emergency modules, reported near misses, attended safety forums and completed ergonomics training.
