Taree is located on rich Biripi country at the heart of the picturesque Manning Valley. The town is surrounded by pristine beaches, waterways and nature reserves. Students can explore nearby national parks which boast amazing nature trails and park land. Just a short scenic drive away are some of the region’s most charming rural townships including Nabiac, Tinonee, Wingham and Barrington Tops

Explore the local area

From the centre of Taree on the Manning River, you can visit beautiful coastal towns showcasing white sand beaches or quaint inland villages with bustling markets and friendly locals. Swim, surf or fish your way across 45 kilometres of pristine coastline and freshwater streams. Eat at one of the award-winning cafes and restaurants, shop at a colourful local market, or watch whales and dolphins from the historic location of the Crowdy Head lighthouse.

Local learning facilities

Located in High Street, the Manning Education Centre is a multi-purpose medical and health sciences teaching facility located near Manning Base Hospital. The centre offers well-equipped Clinical Skills Laboratories. These state-of-the-art simulated learning environments are used to teach procedural and patient care skills to undergrad students and qualified health professionals from various disciplines. They provide the opportunity to practice the skills they will use on real patients but in the safety of a simulated health care setting.

Manning Base Hospital

Manning Base Hospital has specialist wards for surgery, day surgery, general medicine, critical care, obstetrics, paediatrics, emergency services, oncology, palliative care, rehabilitation, high dependency and mental health. Departments include Radiology, Ultrasound, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, ECG and Discharge Planning. Co-located with the hospital is the Taree Community Health Centre, Public Dental Clinic, Mental Health Service and Drug and Alcohol Service.

Student accommodation

Students can apply for subsidised accommodation in multiple locations around Taree, all within walking distance of the Manning Education Centre and the Manning Rural Referral Hospital. You could stay at our Flett Street Units, consisting of 12 two-bedroom units, or at our student accommodation options on High Street, Victoria Street, or Wynter Street. Students have their own private furnished and lockable room.

If student accommodation is unavailable or full, we may be able to subsidise your alternative accommodation costs, making it an affordable way to experience life away from home. Detailed information about accommodation can be found in the Student Orientation Manual.

As a student with us, you’ll have opportunities to be involved in community engagement activities in and around the local region. Past students in Taree have participated in NAIDOC Week and Health Careers programs.
