Inverell has a number of small villages close by making it an ideal base to explore further parts of the New England and Northwest area of NSW. With museums, art galleries and speciality boutique stores, there are plenty of ways to spend your time. Fossicking in Inverell’s waterways has provided many amateur fossickers with some beautiful blue sapphires. With great hiking, camping, limestone caves and waterfalls at Kwiambal National Park, Goonoowigall State Conservation Park, Lake Inverell and Copeton Dam (3 times the size of Sydney Harbour) close by, there are plenty of opportunities to spend time with nature. Water sports abound at Copeton Dam, with both kayaking and water skiing occurring particularly in the summer months.

Our education centre is based within the grounds of McLean Care’s Facility at 67 Killean Street. The education facility is fitted with University of Newcastle IT services, allowing streamlined study opportunities within a dedicated space that allows for group work.

Inverell Hospital

Inverell Hospital provides acute medical, surgical, renal, paediatric and maternity inpatient services. Emergency Department, a range of diagnostic imaging (CT, x-ray and ultrasound), pathology and allied health services are available. A large community health service delivers approximately twenty different programs.

Student Accommodation

Student Accommodation

Allied Health and Nursing Students can apply for subsidised accommodation in our two three-bedroom villas located a short drive from Inverell Hospital and our education facility. A small amount of additional nurses quarters accommodation is owned by Hunter New England Local Health District and is located in the grounds of the Hospital. If UONDRH accommodation is full, students are recommended to contact the Hospital to check availability.

If student accommodation is unavailable or full, we may be able to subsidise your alternative accommodation costs, making it an affordable way to experience life away from home. Detailed information about accommodation can be found in the Student Orientation Manual.

Medical Students undertaking a full clinical year in one of the Rural Clinical sites, have the opportunity to spend at least one full semester in Inverell. Accommodation for this program is located a short drive from the Hospital and the town centre.

From Newcastle you may choose to take the scenic drive along Bucketts Way via Gloucester where you will see impressive mountain views.  Alternatively, you can take the the easier drive via country music capital, Tamworth.  For more information, take a look at the Inverell Visitor Guide.
