Explore the local area
There’s lots to see and do in the Tamworth region, which extends from the Nandewar Range north of Barraba, to the head of the Peel River and the Great Dividing Range. Home to a world-famous country music festival, Tamworth also offers beautiful national parks, local art galleries, the Conservatorium of Music, museums, libraries and a newly constructed Capitol Theatre.

Local learning facilities
Located in Johnston Street, our Tamworth Education Centre gives students access to state-of-the-art laboratory, tutorial and study facilities, including well-equipped clinical skills laboratories. These state-of-the-art simulated learning environments are used to teach procedural and patient care skills to undergrad students and qualified health professionals from various disciplines. They provide the opportunity to practice the skills they will use on real patients but in the safety of a simulated health care setting.

Tamworth Hospital
Tamworth Hospital provides 265 beds with a 24-hour Emergency Department, high level surgical and medical services, including a diagnostic cardiac catheterisation laboratory, burns unit, rehabilitation services (including brain Injury), a diabetes centre, Banksia Mental Health Unit, renal services, oncology, radiology and pathology. Tamworth Community Health Centre is located adjacent to the hospital, providing access to a range of community health services.

Student accommodation
Students can apply for subsidised accommodation in Tamworth, located within walking distance from the hospital and shopping complex. Our student accommodation on the TEC site is made up of five and six-bedroom apartments with two bathrooms. Students have their own private furnished and lockable room. We also have a limited number of studio apartments available opposite the TEC. Each apartment has a bathroom, a combined living/kitchen/bedroom (queen bed) area and a small courtyard.
If student accommodation in unavailable or full, we may be able to subsidise your alternative accommodation costs, making it an affordable way to experience life away from home. Detailed information about accommodation can be found in the Student Orientation Manual.

Community engagement activities
As a student with us, you’ll have opportunities to be involved in community engagement activities in and around the local region. For example, our Secondary Schools health careers programs and the BounceBack diversional youth program are both popular community engagement activities among students undertaking placements in Tamworth.
