Clinical skills labs

Our well-equipped Clinical Skills Laboratories in Tamworth and Taree allow students and health professionals to practise their skills while in the safety of a simulated healthcare setting.

The labs are equipped to teach skills such as lumbar puncture, ultrasound, advanced airway management, obstetric and gynaecological procedures, plastering, intravenous cannulation, and chest tube insertion and management. Our teaching staff have extensive experience in simulation and skills training, and in using special effects make-up.

State-of-the-art simulation technology

State-of-the-art simulation technology

Our labs are equipped with computerised manikins that help simulate real patient conditions: Laerdal's SimMan 3G, SimMan Essential, SimMum, SimJunior, SimBaby and SimNewB. You'll be taught to monitor physiological changes and make decisions about appropriate interventions for various medical conditions and emergencies. Simulation technology has been shown to positively impact patient safety and improve healthcare quality and outcomes.

Camps and workshops

Camps and workshops

Students can also participate in week-long camps, workshops and specialist weeks that make use of simulation technology. Our staff take the simulation equipment into the field and—often with the help from some actors—challenge your knowledge, skills and decision-making abilities.
