Description

From the control of robots to the optimisation of modern vehicles, from the design of appliances to biomechanics, Mechatronics Engineers become involved in a diverse range of exciting modern technologies. This may also include the design, automation and operational performance of electro-mechanical systems.


Program learning outcomes

On successful completion of the program students will have:

  • Comprehensive, theory based understanding of engineering fundamentals and/or the underpinning natural and physical sciences as applicable to the engineering discipline
  • Conceptual understanding of the, mathematics, numerical analysis, statistics, and computer and information sciences which underpin the engineering discipline

Compulsory program requirements

Requirements for qualification of this award include completion of at least 12 weeks of industrial experience of a nature acceptable to the Faculty Board. Students are encouraged to obtain and to report on a substantial block of this experience at one time but several shorter periods not less than 2 weeks duration will be accepted. This program is accredited by Engineers Australia, and other affiliated international organisations, through the Washington Accord. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to apply for membership to Engineers Australia.

320 units

4 years full-time or part-time equivalent up to 10 years maximum.

International student visa holders who are studying the program on campus are required to enrol full time as per student visa requirements.

Program requirements

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Mechatronics) program, is a 4-year program comprising 320 units in which students complete 280 units of core courses and 40 units of elective pathway courses. No more than 120 units can be at 1000 level; and at least 40 units must be taken at each level from the 2000 level and above for this program. 

An elective pathway gives students the opportunity to broaden their skills and knowledge in their own or another engineering discipline; or specialise in areas such as business, maths or science; or undertake study overseas. 

Students with a Band 1 or 2 in the NSW HSC course Extension 1 Mathematics OR who have completed NSW HSC Extension 2 Mathematics (or their interstate/international equivalents) are able to complete the higher level MATH1210/MATH1220 Mathematical Discovery 1/Mathematical Discovery 2 course in lieu of MATH1110/MATH1120. Please contact your program advisor if you wish to discuss this option.

Students may count PHYS1205 in lieu of PHYS1210 with program convenor approval.
