Welcome to the School of Engineering, a diverse school in the College of Engineering, Science and Environment.

We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas of Aerospace Systems, Chemical, Computer Systems, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Medical, Mining Transfer, and Renewable Energy Engineering and Surveying. The School is organised in four major Disciplines, each of which has a Head of Discipline:

  • Discipline of Aerospace Systems, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering
  • Discipline of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Surveying
  • Discipline of Chemical and Renewable Energy Engineering
  • Discipline of Electrical and Electronic, Computer Systems and Medical Engineering

Our programs enable students to gain real-world insights and connect with industry through projects, guest lecturers and mentoring opportunities, in addition to 12 weeks of mandatory industrial experience.

One of the School's major strengths is its excellent research performance. It is home to a wide and exciting variety of centres and research groups, many of which are multidisciplinary and include researchers from other University of Newcastle Colleges, Australian and international universities.

Our staff have strong links with industry through industry sponsorship of undergraduate students, guest lectures, research collaborations and part-sponsored academic positions. Some of our academic staff offer their consulting services to industry, many through Newcastle Innovation, the University's research and consulting organisation.

We always look forward to welcoming new staff and students into our School and are confident you will enjoy the excitement and challenge of working and/or studying in our creative, inspiring environment.
