About us

We are a vibrant hub for research and teaching in the College of Engineering, Science and Environment.

The School of Computer and Information Sciences offers a range of sought-after programs in its own disciplines and also provides discipline expert teaching in a large number of programs across the University.

In response to the demand for graduates with quantitative and analytical skills, we have a range of flexible degree options for students to tailor their studies.

Success in the future will require BOTH technological capability and deep disciplinary expertise, underpinned by critical thinking, creativity and sound judgement.

What should students learn today to thrive in a rapidly changing world?

This white paper, led by SCIS Professor Stephan Chalup, explores how universities can prepare graduates for a future in which technology is transforming every profession and discipline. Its central message is simple: success will require both. Graduates will need to work confidently with new technologies while also developing the human capabilities that technology cannot replace, including critical thinking, creativity, ethical judgement, communication, adaptability and deep disciplinary expertise.

The paper outlines approaches to curriculum design and assessment that help students develop the knowledge, judgement and problem-solving skills needed for long-term career success.

As a leader in computing, mathematics, statistics, data science and information technology education, SCIS is continually evolving its programs to ensure graduates are equipped not only to adapt to change, but to shape the future.
