Central Analytical Facilities
Our Central Analytical Facilities give researchers and students access to a range of multi-disciplinary scientific equipment and services, from flow cytometry to analytical and biological mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, x-ray services and more.
Access to centrally managed research infrastructure is provided through two complementary units:
- The Analytical and Biomolecular Research Facility (ABRF) comprising flow cytometry and mass spectrometry
- The Electron Microscope and X-Ray Unit (EMX).

All users should the acknowledge University of Newcastle's Central Analytical facilities and its staff in research publications, posters, theses, oral presentations or other formal communiques.
Researchers should also provide a copy of any publications acknowledging assistance from the Central Analytical Facility, materially or otherwise, to the units as this helps support applications for future equipment and service improvements.Advice for ARC and NHMRC Grants
Grant writers should incorporate any ABRF and/or EMX fees and related charges into any grant applications submitted to the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) where use of the unit's equipment is anticipated.
