Newcastle University Sport (NUsport) is the peak sporting body at the University. They manage The Forum Sports & Aquatic Centre on the Callaghan Campus and The Forum Health and Wellness Centre in the Newcastle CBD, providing Olympic-standard training facilities for University staff, students and the wider community.

NUsport offers world class fitness facilities to support the competitive, training and testing needs of athletes and researchers, while also serving the recreational and fitness interests of students and the community.

Sporting facilities include the Olympic-standard The Forum Sports & Aquatic Centre, featuring the only heated indoor 50m pool in the region, indoor courts, four sporting ovals and two state of the art gyms.

High Performance

Additionally, NUsport is an official New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) Central High Performance Centre. This purpose built training area allows sporting teams and athletes to train in a private environment, with access to ovals, an indoor heated pool and testing facilities.This High Performance Training Zone is regularly used by the Newcastle Knights, Newcastle Jets, Hunter Wildfires and visiting sporting teams.

Elite Athletes

As a member of the Elite Athlete Education Network (EAEN), The University is committed to supporting elite student athletes to achieve academic and sporting excellence. We provide elite student athletes with access to support staff who can assist them with managing study commitments, as well as sport and academic scholarships, access to premier sporting facilities and opportunities to represent the University in sport.

State of the Art Laboratories

The upgraded Vic Levi Building now offers laboratory facilities for Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Performance Data Analysis, and Motor Skills, supporting both academic and research pursuits for students and staff. The refurbishment enhances the University's world-class sporting infrastructure, expands its network across the Hunter and Central Coast regions, and strengthens its national and international competitiveness.

Exercise Physiology Clinic

The Exercise Physiology Clinic at Hunter Sports Centre is a training facility for Master of Exercise Physiology students offering the community affordable, evidence based treatment to prevent, treat and manage a range of health conditions, injuries and disabilities. The Clinic also offers injury prevention, performance programs and general health and wellness advice to private clients.

Athlete Testing

The Trevor Height Athlete Testing Facility at Hunter Sports Centre offers high-level athlete testing using the latest equipment available overseen by exercise and sports science practitioners. These tests are highly tailored to individual or team needs and are designed to give an accurate representation of an individual’s athletic ability and sports specific fitness. Three packages are offered, with athletes provided an individualised report to inform their training goals after their visit. Bespoke arrangements and expert consultation are also available upon enquiry.

Elite swimmers in the Newcastle region and beyond can now access a high performance program while living regionally, with the University of Newcastle officially opening its new NUsport Performance Hub, created in partnership with Swimming NSW and the NSW Institute of Sport.
