Simply Cups - Coffee Cup recycling program
A recent University audit found that coffee cups account for 3% of general waste and 2% of recycling. Through implementing a range of waste recycling programs, we are aiming to increase our campus waste recycling target of 70% by 2021 as set out in our Environmental Sustainability Plan 2019 - 2025.
The best and most sustainable option for your daily caffeine dose is to bring your own cup. Due to COVID-19 our retailers are currently not accepting keep-cups, so we understand that some days things don't always go to plan.
For those days, The University has collaborated with Simply Cups to recycle disposable coffee cups and divert them from landfill. These recycled cups are then used to make reusable coffee cups – the rCup – a world first reusable coffee cup made from recycled coffee cups, as well as a range of other products.
The Simply Cup recycling stations are located at:
Not near a Simply Cups recycling station when you finish your drink?
That’s okay! Separate your cup and lid, then put the lid in the yellow recycling bin and the cup in the red landfill bin. That way you are recycling the lid and not contaminating the recycling waste with a cup that cannot be recycled.
