Student parking permits

If you are coming to Callaghan Campus regularly for class or you live on campus, you can choose to purchase a parking permit rather than paying for parking each day.

A student parking permit allows access for a motor vehicle to park in General parking areas only. It cannot be used to park in Staff, Accessibility, Reserved or Service bays. Student permits are available for a 6 or a 12-month period. Please be aware that purchasing a parking permit does not guarantee you a parking bay. Our Parking and Transport map will show which areas on campus are General parking, shown in blue.

Driving a different car to campus? vPermit gives users flexibility to register and activate different vehicle license plate numbers. It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle registration you have selected as Active matches the vehicle you are driving to campus that day for your permit to be valid.

All University of Newcastle campuses are restricted parking areas. Once you have been issued a student parking permit, you are agreeing to the rules governing traffic and parking. Failure to hold a valid permit or parking ticket while parked on campus may result in an infringement issued by Campus Security. Infringements must be paid to Revenue NSW.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a student parking permit, you must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student of the University of Newcastle. If you are both a staff member and a student, you must activate your vPermit using the relevant profile.

How to apply for your vPermit

Students can apply for and manage their permits online via the digital portal, vPermit, on the myUni web browser or app. This system requires users to input their vehicle license plate, so physical permits do not need to be displayed.

Permits are issued digitally via the vPermit portal. As the vPermit system uses vehicle license plate recognition it is very important that the correct vehicle is activated when parked on campus.

  1. Access the vPermit portal via the myUni browser or app (click on the 'parking permit' tile)
  2. Click 'Log in' and select the ‘University SSO Log In’ button to get started*
  3. Log in using your University ID e.g. c1234567 and password
  4. Click ‘Apply for a vPermit’
  5. Select a permit from the pre-filled dropdown menu (the permits you are eligible for will appear)
  6. Enter your vehicle registration/s (ensure the vehicle registration you have selected as 'Active' matches the vehicle you are driving to campus that day for your permit to be valid.)
  7. Select your payment preference and follow the prompts

* It is important to log in using University Single Sign On (SSO). Do not complete the one-off self-registration option as you won’t be authenticated in the system.

Cancelling, refunding or transferring your permit

Cancelling your permit
Permits can be cancelled by the user at any time via the vPermit system. Simply select the permit from the My Permits tab and select Cancel. The cancellation request is date and time stamped. It is up to the individual to re-apply if needed to ensure they have an active permit when parked on site.

Refunds
Permit fees for a cancelled permit purchased upfront by credit card will be held in vPermit as a credit. For refund requests, please email transport@newcastle.edu.au.

Transferring your permit between vehicles
You can list up to five different vehicle registrations and easily nominate which car you're in (your active vehicle) when you drive to campus. You can view and manage the vehicles against an active permit by clicking the Manage Vehicles button on the My Permits screen. It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle registration you have selected as Active matches the vehicle you are driving to campus that day for your permit to be valid.
