Residential parking permits

All university parking permits are issued digitally via the vPermit web portal.

If you live on campus at Callaghan, you have access to exclusive residential carparks near the accommodation precinct. To park in these car parks, you will need to purchase a Residential Parking vPermit. The Resident vPermit allows you to park in Residential parking bays only. This vPermit is not valid for General, Staff, Service or Disabled parking bays. The Residential vPermit is ONLY valid for parking in Carpark 11 and 15.

All of Callaghan campus is a restricted parking area. All parking is General unless signage states otherwise so check all local signage and ground markings.

Residents can apply for and manage their permits online via the digital portal, vPermit. This system uses vehicle license plate recognition so its important to make sure that your active vehicle is the first one listed in your permit details.

Driving a different car to work?

vPermit gives users flexibility to register and activate different vehicle license plate numbers. It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle registration you have selected as Active matches the vehicle you are driving to campus that day for your permit to be valid. To switch between registrations, log in to vPermit > My Permits > Manage vehicles and activate the vehicle you have driven to campus that day.

All University of Newcastle campuses are restricted parking areas. Once you have been issued a Residential Parking vPermit, you are agreeing to the rules governing traffic and parking. Failure to hold a valid vPermit or parking ticket while parked on campus may result in an infringement issued by Campus Security. Infringements must be paid to Revenue NSW.
