The challenge of making children & young people's participation real
Nigel Thomas is Professor of Childhood & Youth Research at the University of Central Lancashire, UK. He is also Director of The Centre for Children & Young People's Participation, and is also an Adjunct Professor at Southern Cross Uni.
Nigel's research interests are principally in child welfare, children's rights and participation, and theories of childhood.
Nigel was co-editor of the journal Children & Society, and is now Chair of the Editorial Board. He is also on the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Children's Rights.
His publications include: Children, Family & the State: Decision-Making & Child Participation; Social Work with Young People in Care; Children, Politics & Communication: Participation at the Margins; and A Handbook of Children & Young People's Participation.

Doctoral Fellow, Social Work.
Anne completed her doctoral studies at Cardiff
University in Wales United Kingdom.
Dr. Crowley is currently developing a research
fellowship proposal on the participation of children and young people in
out-of-home care in NSW.
