Fresh scientist for 2021
Doctor Michael Ruppert has been announced as one of the 2021 Fresh Scientists. This program is run by Science in Public and aims to upskill Early Career Researchers into science communicators.
Michael is an Early Career Researcher in the School of Engineering working in the field of Microelectromechanical Systems, Control Systems and Nanotechnology.
Working with expensive, bulky Atomic Force Microscopes to explore nanomechanical properties, Michael is developing a silicon chip to improve the performance, decrease the cost and open up more applications for this technology.
This program offers science communication training and the chance to share my work with the public – so I was super-excited about the opportunity,” Michael said.
“My work on microelectromechanical systems and being able to ‘visualise the nanoscale’ is fascinating – but it’s difficult for many people to grasp due to the extremely small length scales.”
Michael will experience a day of intensive media training in November before presenting at an event in front of the public when restrictions lift.
Science in Public has run Fresh Science for 22 years because they believe in the power of science to change the world.
