Continuing the Productivity Conversation Green Paper
The future for NSW depends on the reforms we make today and the NSW Productivity Commission, following their earlier discussion paper, has released the Continuing the Productivity Conversation Green Paper.
The Green Paper claims that education is one of the most important ways that governments can improve the lives of the citizens of NSW, drive productivity growth and lift economic prosperity.
Higher education and the VET system are leveraging their capabilities to become more flexible to support the increasingly dynamic labour market, particularly post COVID. Confronted with these challenges, many are suggesting there is a solution: lifelong learning. At its core, a system of lifelong learning creates globally aware, locally active learners to assure their participation in the labour market and in their communities. How can education, industry employment, and skills development be adapted to offer more opportunities for lifelong learning attuned to the skills demands of employers and the needs of workers?
The Green Paper also calls out the work of the NUW Alliance, Western Sydney University and TAFE NSW regarding the potential of micro-credentials in the new Western Sydney Parkland City. The Multiversity will provide an opportunity for a co-location across education, training and research with industry. All made possible with the development of the Aerotropolis that will feature a hub for advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence, global freight and logistics.
Last week, the NUW Alliance partnered with the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue for a DigitalDialogue: Online Forum with the NSW Productivity Commissioner Peter Achterstraat AM. The online event, with NUW Alliance CEO Matt Gijselman on the panel, discussed the NSW Productivity Commission's Green Paper recommendations.
