The event will see students and representatives from the University meet with parliamentary representatives and share their research and educational experiences. Central to the event will be an exhibition showcasing the University’s impact across the Hunter and Central Coast, as well as its role in advancing education and research in New South Wales.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Zelinsky AO said the University’s 60th anniversary year was the perfect time for staff and students to connect with government, reflect on the university’s achievements and showcase how our research and engagement is helping to drive the state and nation forward.

“As a regional university, we are deeply embedded in our community, and this event will help us demonstrate our impact and highlight the things that make us proud to be a University of and for our region,” Professor Zelinsky said.

“Our sector-leading Pathway Programs and our position as the leading university in the country for Indigenous enrolments means we are providing opportunities for people from all walks of life to access education is at the core of what we do. We want to share the impact this has locally and nationally with our industry leaders and state politicians.”

“On the research front, we are leading research in the clean energy sector, developing cutting edge technology to advance healthcare and training the next generation of researchers.”

The event will recognise students, like Naomi Pullar, who will share her story at the event.

“Students like Naomi are the reason why we do what we do. Naomi will reflect on her own journey into and higher education as a mature aged student, completing a Pathway Program and then progressing into her dream degree. Her story reflects the opportunities we create, and the transformative impact education can have on people’s lives.” Professor Zelinsky said.

“Laureate Professor Behdad Moghtaderi will also showcase his work creating technology that creates cleaner energy by converting green ammonia to high purity hydrogen and we’ll demonstrate our 'Pit Stop for Health' program - a student-led initiative dedicated to promoting health awareness through a mini health check.”

The event will be held inside NSW Parliament House from 12:30-2:30pm on Wednesday 19 November.
