Launch event: Older Persons Legal Clinic
A free legal clinic to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society – older people – will officially launch at an event on Thursday with the NSW Attorney General, The Hon. Mark Speakman SC MP.
Established by the University’s Newcastle Law School, the Older Persons Legal Clinic offers free legal advice for older people on a range of issues including financial abuse, dispute with neighbours, advanced care directives, wills, powers of attorney, enduring guardians and tenancy disputes.
The clinic, which usually operates face-to-face appointment from the ATO in Gosford, has adapted to a phone-based service to improve accessibility during COVID-19 restrictions. People over the age of 60, and Indigenous people over the age of 50, seeking legal advice are able to ring the toll free number: 1800 314 792 or email: legalcentre@newcastle.edu.au to make an appointment or lodge an enquiry.
The University of Newcastle also operates a clinic in Newcastle with face-to-face appointments available on Wednesdays at the University’s NUspace campus.
The online Zoom launch is on Thursday 5 November at 10.30am – 11am. The community can register for the free event via Eventbrite.
