The Open Day will be the first time the Newcastle campuses have held an in-person Open Day since 2019, with Callaghan and the City Campus opening to the public.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Zelinsky said, “Open Day is a great day for prospective students and the community. It gives them a chance to get hands on with our technology, learn about the courses and talk to students and teachers about what studying at our University is like.

“There is a real buzz during Open Day - whether you are finishing high school or thinking about a career change, there’s a place for you at the University of Newcastle and I really encourage you to come down and learn more about your study options.

“There will be live music, interactive learning experiences like a mock courtroom and a live broadcast studio and free food products created by our alumni.

“We will welcome thousands of Hunter locals to the event, as well as people from areas further afield like Bathurst and Tamworth.

We’re excited to have so many people coming to our regions to learn about our programs and we will have targeted information for both school leavers and non-school leavers to learn about their study options.”

Open Day will also be the first opportunity for members of the community to see some of the University’s new upgrades that have been completed over the past three years since the last in-person Open Day.

“Providing state-of-the-art facilities is an important aspect of the learning experience at our University.

“This will be the first time the community will be able to see some of our new learning spaces, like our new Radiology Medical Imaging Suite, Nuclear Medicine Radiopharmacy Labs and our Physiotherapy Labs that provide technology you would find in some of the best hospitals,” Professor Zelinsky said.

Laura Hyslop who is a student at Charlton Christian College will be attending Open Day and is hoping to study Occupational Therapy.

“I have always loved the idea of helping people in some way and I’ve been thinking about different pathways to help people. I’m hoping to get into the Occupational Therapy program, then work with children because I like the idea of making their life easier and better,” said Laura.

“I’m looking forward to being able to see where I will be studying and familiarise myself with the university, so that when I do come here to study, I’ll know my way around a little bit, and it won’t all be so new.”
