Student Advisory Council Elections
Voting is open for the Student Advisory Council - but there's a little more to the story in 2020.
For several years the three student associations (NUPSA, NUSA and Yourimbah), have been collaborating on a project to create a single student association at the University, one that will represent and support all students, including our 4,000+ students who study online.
To assist the new Association establish itself, the University’s Student Advisory Council (SAC) has altered its membership to match the new Association. Students elected to the SAC in 2020 will begin as members of the Advisory Committee to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), before transitioning in June to become the first members of the new Association’s Student Representative Council (SRC).
Six of these elected positions will form the Association Executive and will also become Student Directors on the Association’s governing Board.
"A weighty responsibility," according to the University's Deputy Returning Officer, Fiona Mundie.
"Those elected will help shape the first all-of-institution student representative body at the University of Newcastle, even representing students in the Cloud Campus, from Sydney and Port Macquarie," she said.
"I was pleased with the interest shown and the number of nominations – the level of engagement was unanticipated."
A complete list of nominees for each position is now available for viewing. Students are encouraged to read the candidate statements, paying particular attention to the level of experience, achievements, and enthusiasm.
"Students should take the time to vote (in the SAC elections) because the elected students will be working on their behalf, working with the University to get the best possible outcomes for all students, as their voice and representatives," said Ms. Mundie.
Voting is open from Monday 9 March to Friday 20 March for the SAC and ultimately the new Association SRC. Students may view the nominees for each position and their candidate statement. Position descriptions are also listed to assist in your vote.
