UON goes stackable with edX to transform education leadership
The School of Education will launch a 12 week Professional Certificate in Leadership and Management in Education on 1 August on the global education platform edX. This is the first time UON has offered a short online course or “taster MOOC” for professional learning and academic credit as a pathway into a current postgrad program.
Developed with CTL by Senior Lecturer, Dr Scott Imig and Head of School, Professor John Fischetti who together have over 50 years of experience in improving the preparation of educators and the quality of teaching and learning in classrooms around the world, the program supports the practical application of an evidence-based theoretical framework for new and current school leaders.
“Being an educational leader is a difficult but rewarding job,” John Fischetti said.
“Our coursework is driven by ground-breaking research teamed with leadership and management capacity building,” John said.
“Scott’s international expertise in coaching for learning and school transformation is at the heart of our work.”
“We are excited to offer future education leaders in Australia and across the globe the opportunity to begin to develop the skills to lead, support, and positively transform learning organisations,” John said.
“We need to entice a new generation of school leaders from current teachers who are passionate about teaching and learning, but also driving toward at a school level our goal of helping every child have a great education and a great life.
“We can’t allow a leadership vacuum in schools to develop because the job is thought of as too hard. This will be a bit of a taster that we hope drives many to go ahead and do the full degree who might otherwise shy away from leadership,” John said.
The Professional Certificate program includes three unique courses completed entirely online:
- Developing Your Educational Leadership and Management Vision
- Applying Strategic Leadership in Education
- Leading Transformative Change in Education
The Professional Certificate program is registered for teacher professional development with the New South Wales Educational Standards Authority (NESA), Australia. This Certificate is also a pathway for entry into the Master of Leadership and Management in Education.
