Academic Promotions
The Performance Review and Development system and Performance Expectations Framework articulate a need for clarity around the performance that is expected at each academic level. In order to ensure that our systems of recognition and reward are aligned, the University commissioned an external review of Academic Promotions in March 2014.
The review panel comprised Professor David Adams, RMIT, Ms Ruth Blenkiron, UniSA, Professor Mandy Thoms, QUT, and Professor Liz Burd, UON. The Panel considered more than twenty submissions and conducted interviews with a range of colleagues at all levels across the institution. The Review Report identified some important procedural and implementations issues, and made a number of recommendations around changes to the policy suite, application processes and requirements, committee structure, and timing. The majority of these recommendations have been endorsed by the Executive Committee and will be discussed by Academic Senate in June as a final step in the review process. Work is underway to start to develop the necessary amendments to policy and procedures in anticipation of implementation in the second half of this year.
In light of the above, the 2014 schedule for academic promotions has been adjusted to accommodate the external review and ensuing implementation phase, with applications for promotion to Levels B, C,D and E planned to run concurrently in Semester 2 2014.
Applications will open 1 July 2014 and close 31 August 2014 with successful promotion effective for all levels 1 January 2015.
