Our incredible University of Newcastle community came together on 6 September to shape a better, fairer and more sustainable tomorrow through our 2023 Gifting Day.

The remarkable generosity of more than 600 donors and ambassadors from seven countries saw over $230,000 raised in support of seven life-changing initiatives.

One generous community, seven ways to make an impact:

Outreach for women in the hunter experiencing homelessness

$23,747 raised to support women in the Hunter experiencing homelessness.
Thank you for your generosity in helping us roll out a trauma-informed approach to assertive outreach – connecting women experiencing homelessness with crucial support services.

Mark Hughes Foundation Centre for Brain Cancer Research

$18,418 raised to advance treatments for children with brain cancer.
Thank you for supporting critical research that is providing much-needed hope for kids and their families around Australia and the world.

Science and Engineering Challenge

$16,111 raised to support Australia’s next generation of ground-breaking scientists and engineers.
Thank you for helping to inspire students from all backgrounds into future STEM careers, creating a more diverse, sustainably-minded and progressive future for us all.

Alumni House

$54,235 raised to help bring this amazing new space to life.
Thank you for sharing in the vision to create a space to bring our community together to connect, collaborate and share opportunities and learning across the world.

Maliyan Indigenous Student Leadership Program

$31,171 raised to support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care leaders of tomorrow.
Thank you for supporting this transformative leadership program which will help students develop their skills to deliver the best possible health outcomes for Indigenous patients and their communities.

Shaping Futures Scholarships

$47,325 raised to support students through Shaping Futures Scholarships.
Thank you for supporting students to overcome unfair obstacles and achieve their full potential – quite literally altering the course of a person’s life.

2NURFM Community Radio Station

$37,295 raised to support 2NURFM Community Radio to continue as an authentic voice for our community.
Thank you for ensuring 2NURFM can keep delivering high-quality local news and entertainment for years to come.

Area of Greatest Need

$3,952 to support where it is most critical across all the Gifting Day projects.
