Winners of the 2015 National Secondary Schools Statistical Literacy Poster Competition Announced
The wait is over for schools who participated in the 2015 National Secondary Schools Statistical Literacy Poster Competition, with results and honourable mentions released today.
235 students participated in the 2015 event, with involvement from Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria and the ACT. In total, 76 posters were submitted, which communicated students’ data-based investigations.
With the success of the initiative, 2016 will see the competition expand and include primary schools.
The competition will grow with the support of the UON’s Priority Research Centre CARMA and the Inspiring Mathematics and Science in Teacher Education Project, as well as a 2016 HEPP NPP grant with UON Senior Lecturer in Statistics, Dr Peter Howley as lead investigator.
Dr Howley developed and coordinates the competition within his role as Chair of Statistics Education for the Statistical Society of Australia. The SSAI Poster Competition encourages teams of two to five secondary school students to develop, implement and creatively report upon an investigation. The investigation should be aimed at addressing a practical research question on a topic of interest to them, based on the collection and interpretation of data.
Congratulations to all involved!
