CIFAL Newcastle celebrate CIFAL Week

Monday, 27 September 2021

To mark United Nations Day and to celebrate the start of a new chapter with the University of Newcastle, CIFAL Newcastle hosted a series of events and presentations at Ourimbah and Callaghan campus for all students and staff.

The highlight of the events was the engaging round table discussion between student leaders and Professor Kevin Hall - Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President Global Engagement & Partnerships.

The discussion examined the University’s commitment to sustainable development goals, their impact on student welfare and the value of embedding sustainable development goals in tertiary education.

Professor Kevin Hall commented that the high calibre of questions and diversity of topics discussed showed that students had a high level of understanding of the opportunities presented by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

An official United Nations flag raising ceremony, biodiversity bush walk and free student BBQ followed the round table discussion.

The City of Newcastle - a key partner of CIFAL Newcastle was represented by Councillor Peta Winney-Baartz who reiterated the City’s commitment to CIFAL Newcastle and its significance to the community and beyond.

CIFAL Newcastle is the only CIFAL centre in Australia and Asia Pacific.

The CIFAL Global Network’s purpose is to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and address global challenges, such as the eradication of poverty and hunger, gender equality, environmental sustainability and risk reduction of natural disasters.
