The Best Medicine Scientist Ranking 2025 by Research.com is a globally respected evaluation that highlights the most impactful researchers in the field of medicine. Based on a rigorous analysis of over 18,000 scientist profiles, the ranking uses the D-index—a discipline-specific version of the H-index—to assess influence through citations and research output specifically within medicine. To qualify, scientists must have a D-index of at least 30 and a significant body of work in the field.

Among the top-ranked scientists, Professor Talley stands out as Australia’s number one medicine researcher in 2025, with a D-index of 198 and over 142,000 citations. His research focuses on internal medicine, gastroenterology, inflammation and the microbiome, with influential studies on functional gastrointestinal disorders, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), clinical trials and population-based epidemiology. His work bridges clinical practice and research, making significant contributions to understanding conditions including IBS, reflux, abdominal pain, eosinophilic gut disorders, and the link between the gut and mental health.

Professor Talley’s consistent recognition, including multiple “Medicine in Australia Leader” awards, underscores his pivotal role in shaping medical science both nationally and globally. He ranks 165th on the World Best Medicine Scientists list. The full list can be viewed here.
