Shifting demands of the sector on agenda at global higher education conference
Hundreds of higher education professionals, academics, industry and policy leaders are set to arrive in Newcastle as the University of Newcastle prepares to host the Times High Education (THE) Campus LIVE ANZ Conference 2024.
The conference will address topics including how universities can meet the shifting expectations of students, approaches to international student recruitment and how the Accord will shape higher education.
University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Zelinsky AO, said the conference will be an opportunity for the University to work with industry leaders to discuss some of the key challenges facing the sector.
“The university sector is undergoing a period of transition as we navigate policy reform and changing expectations from our students, while trying to diversify our academic offering and increase the number of students from diverse backgrounds,” Professor Zelinsky said.
“We can create a stronger sector when we work together so we’re excited to have around 300 industry professionals joining us at our University for the conference so that we can discuss some of the key issues set to shape the sector over the coming years.”
Session topics will be shaped around three key themes – international outlook and changing policies; strategy, operations and governance; and how teaching, learning and the student experience is changing.
“Our University is first in the sector for Indigenous education and we have Australia’s oldest and largest enabling program called Open Foundation, which has helped more than 70,000 people access higher education in the past 50 years,” Professor Zelinsky said.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to share with other industry leaders some of the wonderful things we are doing here in Newcastle.”
Five Vice-Chancellors from universities across Australia and New Zealand will be among the attendees. The two-day conference at Callaghan campus will include keynote talks and panel discussions.
The University of Newcastle is recognised among the world’s top 40 universities in the world in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, recognising its world-class research, educational experience and purpose-driven commitments and partnerships.
The conference will be held on the 26-27 September. For more information and tickets visit https://www.timeshighered-events.com/live-anz-2024
