National Priority Pool funded research to investigate student perspectives on success
Responding to the call for a project that examines student perceptions of success, the research team will challenge narrow or limited institutional views of success and bring forward students’ own experiences and understandings.
The project will address a lack of nuance and expanse in the discourse around student success, to support a better understanding of how and to what extent various types of support impact the retention and success of students from under-represented backgrounds. The project aims to inform policy and institutional process, and to build a platform for a continued dialogue with students.
The $324,000 grant will support a team of leading researchers in the field, led by Associate Professor Mark Rubin, from the Universities of Newcastle (Professor Penny Jane Burke, Dr Anna Bennett, Olivia Evans, Kristen Allen, Dr Suzanne MacQueen & Associate Professor Peter Howley) Wollongong (Professor Sarah O’Shea), the Sunshine Coast (Associate Professor Maria Raciti), as well as Western Sydney University (A/Professor Nida Denson), the University of Queensland (Dr Carmen Mills), and La Trobe University (Dr Ryan Naylor).
Together with the International Literature Review of Equity in Higher Education, this project signals a recognition of UON’s commitment to equity and our innovative research in the field.
