Graduates mark 30 years of excellence on the coast
More than 1000 students will celebrate the culmination of their studies on Thursday, as the annual University of Newcastle and TAFE NSW graduation ceremonies at Ourimbah campus take place.
Marking a significant achievement for all, staff and students across faculties, disciplines and enabling programs will gather to recognise the hard work and perseverance of their colleagues, family and friends.
Among those set to don their caps is Bachelor of Food Science and Human Nutrition graduate Caitlin Thomas, whose work-integrated learning experience in her third year has her already making her mark as a Food Product Development Officer for a local business.
University of Newcastle Vice Chancellor, Professor Alex Zelinsky AO, said this year’s event was particularly special as the University’s Central Coast presence had reached a milestone of its own.
In 2019, we are celebrating 30 years on the Central Coast. In that time, the University has built on its commitment of creating a pipeline of graduates with the skills and attributes needed to meet the region’s future needs,” Professor Zelinsky said.
“The wonderful stories around us today highlight the significance of our presence on the Central Coast.”
TAFE NSW Regional General Manager, Susie George, congratulated the graduating students and highlighted the importance of quality teaching in their success.
“TAFE NSW applauds every student on this significant personal achievement. This week they officially secure a high-worth, nationally-recognised qualification that will propel them into the workforce as job-ready graduates,” she said.
Accessing a range of quality education options and training excellence locally is a crucial factor in today’s students securing a promising job and becoming an effective member of tomorrow’s workforce. It is critical in developing the next generation of industry leaders.”
