Chancellor's Award for Innovation | $10K on Offer
Support for proof of concept and the commercialisation of innovative ideas is the driving force behind an exciting new initiative at the University of Newcastle.
Nominations are invited for the inaugural Chancellor’s Award for Innovation, a scheme designed to inspire innovative thinking and translational research, and kick start a new culture of entrepreneurship within the institution.
The initiative is being led by the Business Development Team within Newcastle Innovation, the technology transfer unit of UON’s Research and Innovation Division.
The winner will receive $10,000 to support proof of concept for their project and ongoing commercialisation support from the Business Development Team.
Eligible projects include innovative new products, processes or novel discoveries that meet a demonstrated need or solve an inherent industry or societal problem being undertaken by an individual or a team of researchers at the UON.
Nominations can be entered by individuals, supervisors, Heads of School or the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor. A shortlist of candidates will be evaluated by the Chancellor and he will announce the winner at Newcastle Innovation’s Excellence in Innovation Awards in November.
UON Chancellor, Mr Paul Jeans, said he was honoured to be associated with the pursuit of innovation at UON.
“I believe the innovation agenda is crucial to our university and we must encourage staff to be continually thinking about, and doing, things in new and exciting ways,” Mr Jeans said.
“The Chancellor’s Award for Innovation aims to stimulate activity on campus that underpins entrepreneurship and generates a groundswell of interest in translational research.”
