Location Three76 Hub, 376 Hunter St, Newcastle

Over 20 years of academic, local government and industry practice, Monica is an expert in innovative transport solutions. Leveraging her background in transport engineering and research in the built environment, Monica has managed a number of projects in the field of personal and shared mobility, working with governments and transport agencies, including Newcastle City Council and Transport for NSW. Her research of autonomous mass transit systems has taken her all over Australia and the world, presenting at prestigious forums and international conferences in Sydney, Geelong and Silicon Valley.

Recently however, Monica has adjusted her focus closer to home. By utilising the ‘Making Your Place’ grant and recognising the rapid growth world-wide in bike sharing and Newcastle City’s greater cycling access, she and her partner launched BYKKO.

BYKKO is one of the worlds most advanced electric bike sharing systems and presents an alternative to cars when exploring the city. Monica and her team specialise in research, development and implementation of intelligent bike sharing and personal mobility with a focus on data.

The BYKKO team were recently selected to trial 100 bikes at 19 docking stations across Newcastle and Hamilton. Join us at Three76 as Monica tells the BYKKO story and shares her exciting vision of a nationwide mobility program.

Event is free but bookings essential - book here.

About Startup Stories

Startup Stories takes place every Thursday from 1 pm at the University of Newcastle's coworking spaces Three76 Hub (Newcastle) and DSA-18 Hub (Williamtown)*. Startup founders talk candidly about their experience as an entrepreneur and business owner – the highs, the lows, the wins, the mistakes, the whole enchilada. Startup Stories provides real-life examples of the different stages of the startup journey, creating a forum for startups to share and learn but also for the community to see tangible evidence of entrepreneurship making a difference in our region. #i2nStartupStories

*One space hosts the startup founder speaker while the other hosts a live web stream of the talk.
