Teaching is an integral part of higher education. This course introduces the Quality Teaching Model as a conceptual and practical framework for better understanding the practice of teaching and what constitutes quality pedagogy.
The Quality Teaching Model has consistently been linked with improved outcomes for educators and students. Applying the QT Model in higher education can assist with:
- Supporting the analysis of teaching and assessment practice;
- Strengthening course planning and assessment task design;
- Building capacity for collaboration across disciplines;
- Conducting a peer review of teaching;
- Writing about teaching systematically; and
- Elaborating student evaluations.
The course is self-paced (approximately 5 hours) and is accompanied by:
- a comprehensive Guide to Quality Teaching in Higher Education, which unpacks the Quality Teaching Model through a description of each element, inquiry questions to focus observation and/or reflection, 1-5 coding scales for fine-grained analysis, and suggestions for practice;
- a comprehensive Guide to Quality Assessment in Higher Education, which adapts the Quality Teaching Model to focus on fine-grained analysis of assessment tasks;
- a learning journal that provides opportunities for educators to connect the Quality Teaching Model to their own practice;
- opportunities to strengthen skills in observation and analysis through coding filmed examples of university teaching; and
- articulation of diverse strategies to embed the Quality Teaching Model in everyday practice.
