Career-ready placements

Career-ready placements is the umbrella term used by the University of Newcastle to describe a range of educational activities that integrate theoretical learning with practical application in a workplace setting.

All undergraduate programs at the University include at least one authentic career-ready placement experience. These experiences provide students with the opportunity to engage with industry and apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.

For staff involved in the design, delivery, or administration of career-ready placements, the following resources are available.

This SharePoint site is your central resource for work-integrated learning and practice-based education. It provides access to:

  • University-wide updates on career-ready placements
  • Industry benchmarking data
  • Resources to support cross-disciplinary collaboration

The Career-Ready Placements Community of Practice (CoP) is open to all staff interested in work-integrated learning at the University. This includes Program Convenors, Course Coordinators, Placement Coordinators, and Professional Staff involved in the design, delivery, coordination, or administration of placements.

The CoP meets regularly throughout the year, featuring a mix of internal and external guest speakers who share sector insights. Members also receive a regular email newsletter with updates and opportunities.

The University uses a suite of platforms to support the administration of career-ready placements - Sonia, CareerHub and ClinConnect. This SharePoint site provides guidance for placement officers and academic staff on navigating these systems effectively.

This policy outlines the University’s principles for work-integrated learning undertaken by students as part of their program or course requirements.

This procedure defines the responsibilities and processes for staff, students, host organisations, and third-party providers involved in career-ready placements.
