The SMART team hosts a variety of engaging events throughout the year, including primary school incursions, holiday workshops, and our popular after-school STEM Club.
We're also proud to partner with events across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, bringing our exciting science shows to both students and the wider community. There's always something happening—check out what’s coming up!
Curious Chemistry Holiday Workshop
If your child is curious about chemistry, this half-day workshop is perfect for them!
Throughout the workshop, children will investigate everyday chemicals and reactions, discover the difference between acids and bases, measure the pH of common household items, and even make edible sherbet to take home.
There will be plenty of time for open-ended exploration so your child can work at their own pace, with support from the SMART Program’s expert educators.
Ages: 8-12 years (limited to students enrolled in primary school years 3, 4, 5 & 6)
Location: Charlestown Library
Time: 10:00am - 12:30pm
Forensic Science Holiday Workshop
This half-day workshop will explore the fascinating world of forensic science. Students will learn some of the techniques scientists use to help solve crimes, from fingerprinting to chromatography.
All activities will be age-appropriate, involving everyday objects and scenarios. Plus, there will be plenty of time for open-ended exploration so your child can work at their own pace, with support from the SMART Program’s expert educators.

Build A Robo-Pet- Coding and Robotics for Beginners

This 5-week after school workshop is for students who have done some coding activities at school (eg, Scratch), or are new to coding and keen to try but don’t know where to start.
Across five weeks, students will use a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 rover to use block coding, incorporate an ultra sonic sensor and decorate a robo-pet!
Ages: 8-12 years (limited to students enrolled in primary school years 3, 4, 5 & 6)
Location: Belmont Library
Time: 4:15pm- 5:30-pm
