Lifetime Achievement Award For ELFS Director
Associate Professor Seamus Fagan, Director of the English Language and Foundation Studies Centre at the University of Newcastle has received a Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding achievement by the sector's peak body for English courses.
Presented by English Australia at their national conference last Thursday evening, the award recognises the significant contribution made to the English Language training sector by Associate Professor Fagan.
Chair of English Australia, Marc Weedon-Newstead said that “With a career stretching more than 37 years, this is award is a fitting tribute to the impact Seamus has made to the sector. Not only has he successfully managed two University English Language Centers, he has been at the table driving many high level industry and government consultative processes, mentoring future leaders of the sector, particularly during his time serving as Chair of English Australia for more than six years.”
“During Seamus’ time on the Board of English Australia (stretching over 17 years), enrolments within the sector grew from 20,000 students to 160,000 students annually. His willingness to share best practice and strive for high standards across the sector is a trade mark of his character and demonstrates his commitment to the industry.”
This is only the third time English Australia has presented a Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2012 Associate Professor Fagan received an award for his distinguished contribution to International Education from the International Education Association of Australia.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Andrew Parfitt said that the University of Newcastle is honored to have someone of Associate Professor’s Fagan’s calibre here at our University.
“We have a sector leading reputation in delivering equitable access to higher education and are extremely proud of the contribution Seamus has made to the sector. He actively demonstrates the role our staff play in driving the conversation at a national level”.
