All students who successfully complete their Bachelor of Laws will graduate with Honours at a level determined by your academic achievement across the whole course of study. You will receive in-depth training in legal research techniques, and be equipped with advanced skills suitable for high-level legal research work or further academic study.
You will complete the first 105 hours of your required supervised clinical legal experience under the supervision of solicitors from our School – either in the legal centre itself or as part of our “Law on the Beach” program. School staff also assist to arrange external placements to make up the remaining 180 professional training hours required to qualify to practise as a lawyer.

The University of Newcastle Legal Centre (UNLC) allows students to engage with the community and legal professionals to develop practical skills in the application of the law. The Legal Centre offers a range of services to the public, including free legal advice and assistance, representation, law clinics and community education seminars.
The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Diploma of Legal Practice is only available to University of Newcastle students who have completed the first degree of a combined Law degree. Following completion of your first degree, unless you opt out, you will automatically be enrolled into the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Diploma of Legal Practice, enabling you to be admitted as a lawyer in Australia.
