Applying for university
The University of Newcastle offers many pathways and entry options to give students the best chance of getting into uni. Some relate to specific degrees, others include our free enabling pathway programs like Newstep, Open Foundation and Yapug.

Beyond Blue secondary school program for years 8–10 aims to equip students with the ability to deal with adverse events through the teaching of ‘life skills’ within a supportive and safe school environment. | |

headspace Schools is a national workforce that supports, engages and partners with education and health sectors across Australia, to build the mental health literacy and capacity of workforces. NUPrep courses
NUPrep offers FREE academic preparation and support for all University of Newcastle students in the weeks leading up to each Semester. Each course is not designed to replace completing assumed or recommended studies at high school, but to 'top up' subject knowledge and introduce skills needed to commence tertiary study.
NUPrep Bridging and Refresher Courses help students brush up on their academic knowledge and skills. The courses cover a wide range of subject areas to suit the degree or program student's are preparing for.
The University of Newcastle Experience
Book a campus tour
A campus tour can give students a taste of what studying at the University of Newcastle is really like. Tours are led by our Student Ambassadors – current students at the University. Depending on interests and availability, tours can include lecture theatres, the library and Student Hubs.
A tour takes approximately two hours and includes a short presentation about the University. Tours are conducted between March to early December for school groups and are subject to availability.

Subject specific talks, tours and activities
At the University of Newcastle, we understand that students and teachers may be interested in what the we have to offer in a specific subject area. We’ve developed a suite of activities, talks and tours in a variety of areas.
Some of these activities, depending on availability, can be brought directly to your school and others can be presented on campus at the University. Combine an activity with a tour of the campus to create a tailored experience for your students.

Campus Experience Days – Callaghan and Ourimbah
Campus Experience Days include tour of campus, hands-on activities and subject taster sessions for school groups of students in Year 7 to 10 who are interested in studying at university. In 2019, Campus Experience Days will be held from 2 to 13 December.

Professional development for educators
The University of Newcastle provides educators with a range of postgraduate study options for professional development, such as:
- Graduate Certificate in Education
- Master of Education
- Master of Leadership and Management in Education
- Master of Special and Inclusive Education
If the idea of committing to a degree seems a little daunting, you can still gain skills to lead, support and positively transform your school by enrolling in the Professional Certificate in Leadership and Management in Education. You will study the following 3 courses that will contribute to 12 hours of NESA Registered Professional Development:
- EDLMX1 Developing Your Educational Leadership and Management Vision
- EDLMX2 Applying Strategic Leadership in Education
- EDLMX3 Leading Transformative Change in Education
Completing the Professional Certificate is a pathway for entry into the Master of Leadership and Management in Education at the University of Newcastle.

Year 10 Subject Selection Webinar
Our student ambassadors will share key subject selection information and share their stories and experiences with subject selection and transition to University studies.
