The University of Newcastle has earned a strong reputation for delivering quality programs in the areas of creative and performing arts, communication, digital media, natural history illustration, visual design and music. In 2017, we officially launched the fusion of all of the University's creative disciplines to form the School of Creative Industries.
Our students – regardless of their primary program of study – have access to industry-standard facilities, while being taught by academics and creatives whose work is recognised and celebrated across the globe.
We also collaborate with our partners across the spectrum of creative professions to drive innovations that contribute to the cultural and economic transformation of our regions.
Welcome from the Head of School
Welcome to the University of Newcastle’s School of Creative Industries – a place where all talent is nurtured, artistic expression is encouraged, and creativity is cultivated.
Established in 2017, we’ve already gained a great reputation for attracting and developing world-class talent who are helping shape the future cultural and economic landscape.
It’s a great time to be in the burgeoning city of Newcastle. Our $25m building will open in autumn 2021 with facilities for our new virtual and augmented reality, games art, transmedia storytelling and experience creation courses.
As our industry grows to over $111 billion in Australia, work opportunities for our graduates are expanding, making it a great time to study for a career in the creative industries.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
